Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which will be provided at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This document outlines essential terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle in Downpatrick, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may vary based on vehicle type, with potential extra charges for those under 25. A valid full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, held for the minimum duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Renters must present valid identification and proof of residence, along with payment details and a security deposit. Any further conditions specified in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Downpatrick office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. It is expected that the vehicle be returned in the same condition as received, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and charges may apply accordingly. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at the time of collection; failure to do so will result in refueling charges. Late returns can incur additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you foresee a delay. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. The Rental Agreement outlines comprehensive coverage details and the applicable excess amounts. You may have options for additional insurance to lower your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless you opt for extra insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on your booking type and the notice provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or purposes such as racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting or allowing unauthorized drivers is not permitted. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Vehicles should only be used as intended, within designated passenger and weight limits, and within agreed geographical boundaries unless prior authorization is obtained.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Downpatrick is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claims will not exceed the total rental amount paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Local Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
10. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
